Before MDG rehabilitated Herkimer Street it had a reputation as being one of the most dangerous, drug infested buildings in Bedford Stuyvesant. When constructions started the residents were determined not to allow our work crew access to their apartments. Within three months MDG was rehabilitating 48 apartments at a time including new bathrooms, kitchens, flooring, doors and painting. Our work crews and supervisors became so close with the residents that they were sharing meals together.
